Toshiba TRL
Toshiba Telecommunications Research Laboratory (TRL), founded in Bristol UK in 1998, is a division of Toshiba Research Europe Ltd (TREL), which is one of four globalised corporate-level R&D organisations founded by Toshiba Corporation. TRL conducts research into software, protocol stack, physical layer and hardware design aspects of future mobile terminals and networks. The main research themes include context-aware dynamic optimization of wireless networks and advanced air interface technologies for both local area and cellular systems.
Toshiba has very long experience in the wireless standards and technologies, reconfigurability solutions, consumer electronics, and radio modelling paradigms. TRL and its employees have good relationships with, and frequently collaborate with, European universities such as the University of Bristol, and have been actively involved in a number of European Union supported collaborative research projects.
Toshiba TRL considers the Smart Meter an important part of the future communications infrastructure in consumers’ homes. Toshiba TRL has joined ESMIG to promote Smart Metering standardisation and also to contribute to related home networking aspects.
