The Launch of the European Smart Metering Industry Group

The European Union has set itself ambitious targets for the year 2020: to reduce the output of greenhouse gases by 20%, to improve energy efficiency by 20% and to increase the percentage of renewable energy by 20%. To achieve these targets the development of fully operational Smart Metering systems across Europe is essential. Smart Metering technologies deliver significant benefits to consumers as well as more sustainable energy management and increased security of energy supply.
Therefore, the newly founded Industry Group ESMIG (European Smart Metering Industry Group) is pleased to invite you to its official launch event "Smart Metering for Europe" in Brussels.
ESMIG’s Members are the leading companies in the European Smart Metering Market – not just meter manufacturers, but also IT companies and system integrators. The association, based in Brussels, aims to provide knowledge on Smart Metering and related communications at the EU level. ESMIG represents the interests of the Smart Metering industry and promotes the benefits of smart metering . It also participates actively in standardisation work in national and international organisations.
Andreas Umbach, President of ESMIG and President and Chief Operating Officer of Landis+Gyr, will deliver the opening remarks. Other speakers are Heinz Hilbrecht, European Commission, Director in DG TREN and Claude Turmes, Member of the European Parliament and Vice-Chairman of the Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance .

Agenda:
Registration starts at 12:00 and speeches will start around 12:30.
At 13:00 a buffet lunch will be served and practical showcases will be set up to demonstrate and experience the benefits of Smart Metering. The event will end officially at 15:00.
