Metering Europe 2011: key ESMIG presentations

19 October 2011 - Brussels Metering, Billing/CRM Europe 2011 closed its doors on 6 October with 4488 smart metering experts and 457 smart home pioneers having attended the event compared to 3821 participants in 2010, showing once again that this is the industry leading meeting place for smart utility professionals.

ESMIG representatives chaired sessions and/or gave presentations which were well-attended by around 100 participants each. On 4 October, ESMIG Vice-President Frank Hyldmar gave a presentation under the "Ensuring security & privacy" session explaining why design for security in the smart grid is an absolute must. The next day, October 5, ESMIG International Alliances Director Dr. Howard Porter presented the findings of the “Empower Demand” report on ’The potential of smart meter enabled programs to increase energy and system benefits: a mass pilot comparison’, written and published by VaasaETT. Dr. Maher Chebbo, Chairman of the ESMIG EBSII working group, followed with his presentation during the session on "Structuring your IT and MDM system" regarding interoperability, standardisation and interchangeability explaining where the pain is and what the benefits are for Europe. Finally, ESMIG Managing Director, Willem Strabbing elaborated on “The role of Smart Metering in Smart Grids” the last day of the event at a session dedicated to “Designing future architecture”.
