ESMIG welcomes a new President and Managing Director

Brussels, Belgium – ESMIG, the Smart Energy Solution Providers, today announces key changes in ESMIG’s organisation with the appointment of a new President and Managing Director.

Nigel Hughes, Area Vice-President of Sales at Itron, has been welcomed into the President’s position on ESMIG’s Executive Committee, while Tomás Llobet, has been appointed Managing Director, replacing Willem Strabbing who will continue as Technical Director.

Nigel Hughes, an active member of the Executive Committee and former chair of the Multi Utility working group had been in the Vice-President role for the past 6 months. “I look forward to working with the executive committee and all our members to ensure ESMIG continues to actively contribute to the creation of a competitive energy market that makes energy cleaner, more affordable and more reliable” stated Nigel in his first address to ESMIG members.

During the Strategic General Assembly on 30 June, ESMIG members, thanked outgoing President, Dieter Brunner, President of the Board of Directors at Iskraemeco, for his  dedicated work and welcomed Nigel’s experience and leadership in taking ESMIG forward.

Tomás Llobet has been working in Brussels since 2003 and has gained considerable experience working in Public Affairs, including 5 years at the European Parliament and in consultancy. As independent consultant for the past 3.5 years, he has been working mainly on Energy and Climate policy issues and is also the Secretary General of European Energy Retailers (EER).

Speaking to ESMIG members, he stated ‘’working with ESMIG brings a unique opportunity to work at the head of the dual energy and digital transitions, on issues that are now at the core of the Recovery Plan for Europe. ESMIG is a key association in these field and has big potential despite the difficult times we are currently facing’’.

The goal is to ‘’understand both the big picture and the technical details and ensure that ESMIG is well connected within the institutions and proactive with interest groups and stakeholders’’.

Willem Strabbing welcomes the appointment of Tomás Llobet stating, ‘’his extensive background in Public Affairs and in particular with the energy environment will help ESMIG to strengthen its position and connections on political level and develop its strategic alliances.’’
