ESMIG’s mission is to support its members by representing the views of Europe’s smart energy solution providers on key European policy and regulatory issues and driving a green transition that fully empowers consumers. This is only possible with the help and support of our members. A very good reason to get to know them better!
We spoke with Martynas Čereška, CEO of Elgama-Elektronika, to find out more about the company and their thoughts on the role of smart energy solutions.
Introduction to Elgama-Elektronika:
Elgama-Elektronika specialises in development and production of smart electricity meters which range from electronic single-phase meters for household applications to three-phase multifunctional electricity meters and devices for industry and utilities.
What is your company’s mission?
We strive to make smart solutions simple.
What drove you to become an ESMIG member?
Elgama’s approach and objectives coincide with those of ESMIG, therefore, the company took a decision to join ESMIG, thus reinforcing its commitment to use smart meters and to undertake even more challenging projects. We believe that our experience of over 30 years in the field of electricity metering solutions will be valuable for this community of committed companies that promotes mutual growth and innovation.
How does ESMIG help your company to achieve your goals and support your company’s mission?
Mutual cooperation is one of the main factors that help Elgama to attain its objectives while being a member of ESMIG. Members of this organisation meet and initiate workshops, conferences and working groups for discussing issues related to smart energy. At such events, companies have the opportunity to share experience, technological innovation, best practices and solutions. Such cooperation enables our company to keep abreast of market trends and to offer best solutions to consumers to meet their expectations.
What do you see as the biggest challenge and opportunity for the energy industry in Europe today?
Upgrading the energy infrastructure. Outdated energy infrastructure in Europe should be modernised in order to adapt to new energy production methods and to increase the energy transmission efficiency, reducing losses at the same time and focussing on digitalisation and automation. Implementation of smart equipment would lead to a more efficient management of energy transmission networks as well as optimisation of their operation. A successful process of upgrading of the energy infrastructure can help Europe to become a leader in the area of sustainable and clean energy.
Where do you see smart energy solution providers making a difference in addressing these challenges?
Smart energy solution providers can contribute to the introduction of modern technological solutions and promote digitalisation, automation, and efficient data management in the energy sector. Provision of innovative technologies that enable the remote monitoring and control of energy networks can lead to a more efficient management of the energy transmission networks, optimisation of energy consumption, and increase in energy efficiency. To ensure efficiency of smart energy solutions, they have to be standardised and compatible with components of the existing infrastructure. There is a challenge, however, that systems provided by various producers and suppliers can be insufficiently compatible or standardised, which could create difficulties in the employment of different technologies
In an ideal world…smart electricity meters should be installed at all homes, businesses and public buildings worldwide. This would be highly beneficial for the global energy infrastructure and the environment in terms of increasing the energy efficiency, optimising electricity networks, protecting the environment and raising consumer awareness.
